Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology has stepped up as the organizer of the prestigious International distributed Physics Olympiad. The competition will take place from December 7 to 15 with the support of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and the Moscow Government. Teams of high school seniors and first-year university students from any country in the world can apply remotely to participate right now.

This year, the International Physics Olympiad IPhO - 2020/21 in Vilnius was postponed to comply with quarantine measures. This was unpleasant news for all teams that were preparing intensively for the event. This also made it impossible for high school students who passed the IPhO qualification earlier and entered the first year of the university in 2020 to participate in the competition. To support these students, MIPT proposed a new format for organizing the Olympiad and the project received the support of the President and the IPhO Advisory Committee. Participation in the Olympiad is absolutely free.

The organizers expect the teams already applied for the IPhO and new national teams ready to compete for medals in solving the most complex and exciting problems in modern physics. Many participants from countries of Europe, Central and South Asia, Latin America have already signed up. To register, you need to create a team, choose a captain and register on the website or send an application via email: i20@phystech.edu. Students can also contact their local IPhO International Council members.

International distributed Physics Olympiad consists of two parts: theoretical and experimental, each will last 5 hours. The organizers will try to provide the best technical support, find a convenient time for the event, taking into account different time zones and advise the teams on any issues. The official language is English, but the terms of the assignments will be translated into other languages.

"Traditionally, the best guys from all over the world, the winners of complex multi-stage qualifying rounds participate in the International Physics Olympiad. They are distinguished by the desire for knowledge, self-realization in the field of intellectual activity, in scientific research. We have a lot of interesting work ahead!" – comments Artem Voronov, MIPT Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs.

It is not the first time that MIPT holds an international-level event. The institute has extensive experience in training teams in international competitions and distributed Olympiads. On our website, you can find various programmes of the university and apply to study directly at MIPT.
