Moscow Hosted Countrywide Russian Language Olympiad for Foreign Nationals

The top scorers were students from 12 countries.

International students majoring in humanities, engineering and natural sciences took part in the 6th Russian language Olympiad. The academic competition comprised online tryouts and onsite finals. In preliminaries, 700 international students from Russian universities took a test and wrote an essay. Fifty-two students made the finals. The onsite round was held at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics. Participants had to write an essay and show spoken Russian skills by making up a dialogue in pairs.

Fifteen students from 12 countries finished with best results. Amegninu Messan Jacques (Togo) from Rostov State Medical University won the first place among third and fourth-year engineering and natural science students; Munkhzhargal Naranzhargal (Mongolia) from National University of Science and Technology MISiS and Khamrayev Umit (Turkmenistan) from Northern Arctic Federal University named after M.V.Lomonosov won the second and third places, respectively. Esenbekkyzy Aelita (Kyrgyzstan) from Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University was best among humanities students, followed by Bayaraa Gantsetseg (Mongolia) from National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University and Mdawar Hassan (Syria) from Turgenev Orel State University. The winners received certificates and presents (tablet computers, notebooks and Ebook readers).

Domestic universities offer a variety of Russian language programmes. International students can choose short courses (summer/winter schools) or enter the Preparatory Department for a standard nine-month language course.
