Quacquarelli Symonds Emerging Europe and Central Asia Rankings included 86 domestic higher education centres.

QS EECA Rankings 2018 highlighted 300 best universities from 26 countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. As in 2017, Lomonosov Moscow State University and Novosibirsk State University held the first and second positions, respectively. The top 100 include Saint Petersburg State University (3), Tomsk State University (13), Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (16), Higher School of Economics (23), National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (26), Tomsk Polytechnic University (35), Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (41), Kazan Federal University (42), Ural Federal University (43), National University of Science and Technology MISIS (52), ITMO National Research University (56), Lobachevsky University (65), Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (71), Far Eastern Federal University (87) and Samara University (98). ITMO National Research University moved up ten positions to place 56th, and TPU, UrFU and MISIS moved up five positions each from the previous year.

QS first published the EECA league tables in 2014; the methodology is similar to the one employed for overall university rankings. It uses ten metrics including academic reputation, employer reputation and faculty/student ratio.
