Future doctors competed in the solution of complex clinical problems.

Novosibirsk State University hosted the International Medical Tournament finals involving 100 students of Russian and foreign medical universities. There were 12 Russian teams and as many teams represented Germany, Poland, Serbia and Ireland. I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University students were best in the Russian-speaking league and Charite – Medical University of Berlin was the top performer in the English-speaking league. The students demonstrated their knowledge in various fields of clinical medicine such as therapy, gynaecology, dermatovenerology, surgery etc. Tournament assignments challenged students to perform a diagnostic procedure, order laboratory tests and prescribe medications. The future doctors’ practical skills were tested as well. In one of the tasks, participants were given five minutes to determine the cause of death and stitch a wound on a medical dummy as fast as possible.

The Medical Tournament which took place for the fifth time is a project by students and alumni of NSU Institute for the Medicine and Psychology. It usually comprises the preliminary (correspondence) round and the intramural stage. More than 340 students from eight countries took part in the tryouts. They represented 40 universities of Russia, Belarus, Poland, Germany, Serbia, Ireland, Albania and Montenegro.
