28 Russian Universities in QS Rankings

Britain’s Quacquarelli Symonds published the list of the world’s best universities.

The number of Russian higher education centres listed by QS has grown to 28 from 25 in the previous year. Lomonosov Moscow State University tops the Russian league table at 74th position. It is followed by Saint Petersburg State University (225th) and Novosibirsk State University (228th). The top 500 included National Research Tomsk State University (250th), Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (281st), Higher School of Economics (298th), National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (314th), Ural Federal University (331st), Kazan Federal University (370th), National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University (401st), Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (401st), National University of Science and Technology MISIS (428th), and Far Eastern Federal University (493rd).

Many Russian universities improved their rankings compared with last year. ITMO University moved up 76 positions to 360th, and RUDN University moved up 66 positions to 326th. Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University “LETI” (in the 701-750 group) was listed for the first time.

QS World University Rankings’ primary objective is to help prospective students choose the suitable university. QS relies on several metrics including Faculty/Student Ratio, Citations per faculty and Academic Reputation.
