Urban Greenhouse Challenge: Reforest – The international competition to save the planet with TPU

Urban Greenhouse Challenge: Reforest is an international competition for student projects hosted by Tomsk Polytechnic University. The aim is to stimulate the development of new technologies to restore global woods after forest fires and uncontrolled deforestation.

Student teams of 3 to 10 people can participate from all over the world. Graduates who received their diplomas after 2019 are eligible as well. Your task is to develop a complete comprehensive plan of a city tree farm: from the architectural layout and construction materials to the workflow structure.

Registration is open till February 28, 2021, but do not delay. TPU representatives are ready to advise the participants and answer any questions. The competition will also host a series of lectures and masterclasses on popular topics.

The competition is held in English. The prize fund for the first, second and third places is 4000$, 2000$ and 1000$, respectively. The most creative ideas of the competition will be awarded independently.

The problems of forest fires and environmental degradation have become exceedingly intense in recent years. Immense forest losses in Russia and Australia are staggering and, unfortunately, not the only examples. The Urban Greenhouse Challenge aims to collect as many work projects and creative ideas as possible to help accelerate the reforestation of the planet. It is a global initiative that attracted 53 teams from 79 universities in 28 countries last year alone. The first competition was held in Amsterdam at the Wageningen University. In 2019 the Urban Greenhouse Challenge took place in China. This year Tomsk Polytechnic University will host the challenge with the support of the information and educational project of the MIA Russia Today, Social Navigator.
