Higher school of Economics and Management (HSEM)

Higher school of Economics and management combines outstanding scientific and educational directions of economic faculties of the University into the unit of a fundamentally new format.

Studying process is in compliance with the industry nature of the global economics. HSEM cooperates with the largest foreign companies. Education process in the Higher school is closely connected to real business.

Higher school of Electronics and Computer Science (HSECS)

Higher school of electronics and computer science combines the latest achievements in the fields of computational mathematics and computer science, IT and electronics.

Higher school trains programmers and engineers that are capable of solving both complex scientific and practical problems, using modern technology and developments in the field of electronics and IT.

The educational programs of the Higher school are developed in close collaboration with employers – the leading world organizations in the field of electronics and IT. Among the partners of HSECS there are such organizations as Emerson and Endress+Hauser, the leaders in industrial automation. Students are actively involved in joint projects.

Special attention is paid to breakthrough research in the following areas:

  • Cyber security;
  • Big data;
  • The creation of intelligent control systems;
  • Virtual simulation of engineering products, etc.

Research base of HSECS is one of the strongest in the Urals. The supercomputer "Tornado" which is in the TOP 500 most powerful supercomputers in the world is available for use by teachers and students. Many of studying programmes suppose work with large data sets and are directly associated with the supercomputer center of South Ural state University.
Students are involved in international projects of Higher school. For example, one of such projects is the international school of software engineering, which brings together 11 universities from 9 countries of the world. The programme of double diplomas is implemented together with the Lappeenranta University in Finland. The first year of studying takes place in SUSU, and the second is in Finland.

Higher school of Medical Science (HSMS)

Higher school of Medical Science (HSMS) is a unique and innovative division of the SUSU combining modern scientific achievements in the field of food technology, adaptive medicine, psychology and biotechnology using supercomputing.

The main direction of scientific research is analysis of mechanisms of chronic emotional stress development at the molecular level. Together with the engineers, scientists are adopting technical solutions to overcome problems in the field of medical technology.

In addition, HSMS develops adaptive medicine technologies and technologies of producing new food products aimed to prevent and correct stress disorders.

Research and laboratory facilities are also of great importance. HSMS has a Centre of medical and biotechnology, where with the help of the latest computer technologies the simulation of medicinal pharmaceuticals is carried out. There is also an opportunity to study molecular mechanisms of stress and to conduct research into medical materials development for rehabilitation of consequences of neurological disorders, including heart attack and stroke.

Its graduates are future professionals such as biotechnologists, geneticists, clinical psychologists and specialists in functional nutrition.

Institute of Architecture and Construction (IAC)

Institute of Architecture and Construction (IAC) combines the best scientific and pedagogical traditions and innovative approaches to teaching, solution of research and practical issues of architecture and construction.

IAC provides integrated multidisciplinary training of specialists in the field of construction, architecture, design, thermoelectric power and heat engineering, as well as land arrangement and inventories. The admission process for the "Construction of unique buildings and structures" programme is also opened.

The Institute successfully integrates science, education and production. Development of educational and scientific centers and laboratories is prioritized. There are "The School of a young Builder", the educational and scientific centre "Construction", and "The Center of additional educational services" at the Institute.

In addition, IAC has a High Construction School giving the most successful students the opportunity to improve their professional competences and the level of knowledge of English professional terminology.

Graduates of IAC work everywhere, where builders, designers, and architects are in demand: in engineering companies, design institutes, architectural offices and workrooms, domestic and foreign construction companies.

Institute of Law (IL)

Institute of Law trains lawyers, legal experts and experts in law enforcement.

The Institute is closely intertwined with practice – big research infrastructure is a fair platform therefor. For example, future criminalists practice in special Center where they take part in the expert investigation. In addition, there are full-fledged criminalistics laboratory and training ground. Students can also gain practical skills in the Law clinic of the Institute. Any resident of Chelyabinsk can go there with a legal matter and students will help to solve the problem.

The best students are enrolled in the "School of excellence", where they can customize their curriculum according to their preferences. Special attention in the area of elite training is given to the advance study of English language and specialized disciplines.

Government agencies, courts, prosecutors and other structures are among the University partners. In addition, to ensure the close links with employers the Institute has a Board of Trustees composed of business partners of the Law Institute.

Institute of Linguistics and International Communication (ILInC)

Institute of linguistics and international communication (ILInC) trains professionals in the sphere of international relations, philology, linguistics, and management.

The activities and educational process at the Institute are focused on advanced scientific research. Students learn modern methods of teaching foreign languages, and also examine topical issues of international cooperation.

The Institute has the Research educational center "Pushkin Institute", which promotes education in Russian language all over the world. "The center of Linguistic innovations and technologies" in cooperation with the students develops lexicographic resources for translators and interpreters. In addition, the Center is engaged in research of systems of texts intellectual processing, which can automate the translation process.

The Center of international educational programmes of the Institute implement double degree programmes, and academic mobility. ILInC has such partners as universities of the USA, China, Europe, and of the SCO countries.

The Institute offers the foreign students the Russian language courses. Moreover, before entering international applicants can take the preparatory courses in major fields.

Institute of Natural and Hard Sciences (INHS)

Institute of Natural and Hard Sciences (INHS) is one of the leading scientific and educational units of the South Ural State University (SUSU). Students receive classical education in physics, chemistry and mathematics, while simultaneously increasing their knowledge in the field of IT-technologies and technologies of studying physical and chemical processes.

Starting from the first course, students meet with potential employers as for this purpose the University has a special club Upgrade. Students communicate with businessmen and representatives of partner companies to get information about employment opportunities.

Scientists and staff of the Institute successfully take leading positions in the number of studies and published scientific papers in international journals. Also they carry out the advanced scientific experiments and trials in the laboratories. The Institute has strong scientific base. For example, the research educational center "Nanotechnologies" has world-class equipment. The Institute has such partners as the universities of Finland, Germany, Spain, UK and other countries. This interaction allows to move the educational process and scientific research of INHS to a high international level.

Institute of Socio-Humanitarian Sciences (ISHS)

Institute of Socio-Humanitarian Sciences (ISHS) combines humanitarian fields of study in SUSU.

ISHS trains specialists in different fields including journalism, advertising, psychology, history, political science and sociology.

Applicants for humanitarian courses enters ISHS. During their studies they can adjust the field without leaving the Institute.

One of the main educational sites of the Institute is the world-class media holding combining the broadcasting company "SUSU-TV", the newspaper "Tekhnopolis", the Studio "SUSU Radio" and the 360-degree multimedia Newsroom.

There is a complex of museums, which includes the Hall of art, the Museum of folks and technologies of the Urals, the Museum of mass media, etc. There is a virtual exposition which is presented by the Pushkin Museum.

ISHS has unique psychological laboratories. Part of the research is conducted in partnership with Goldsmiths University (UK). The SUSU students-psychologists study psychogenetic cognitive development, social psychology, psychology of creativity, and learn active training methods.

Institute of Sport, Tourism and Service (ISTS)

Institute of sport, tourism and service combines the best scientific and educational traditions in the field of tourism and sport.

In addition to the athletes, ISTS trains multidisciplinary specialists in the field of service, tourism, hotel industry, artistic processing of materials, as well as teachers, coaches and specialists in adaptive physical culture.

One of the prioritized and the most promising areas of research in ISTS is determination of the human body reserves. Innovative equipment, modern mobile technical base of the Institute enables research groups to conduct various kinds of research, even during sport competitions.

Together with researchers, students-researchers during trainings examines health of the athletes. The sports facilities of the Institute is the largest and best equipped one in the Southern Urals. It includes 18 sports halls, 6 buildings, the research center of sports science and the pool that allows you to train at the Olympic level.

One of the special directions for the development in the Institute is internal tourism. ISTS steadily works to improve existing routes and develop new ones around the southern Urals.

Polytechnical Institute (PI)

Polytechnical Institute of SUSU is the leader in technical knowledge area in the capital of the Southern Urals and beyond.

The Institute prepares multidisciplinary specialists majoring in engineering, as well as professionals in the field of metallurgy, transport, energy, IT and engineering. The Institute runs an educational program "Flight operation of aircrafts", and also prepares pilots of civil aviation. In addition, the Institute implements a unique "Mechatronics" programme in English.

There are five scientific departments, six research educational centers and laboratories in PI. Such a large research base allows students to pursue interdisciplinary research at any level.

Students will also have a chance to be trained in the area of elite training, where they will receive additional competences and higher qualifications. The main focus in the area of elite training is on deeper study of English, mathematics and science.

Polytechnical Institute cooperates with universities around the world. Universities of France, Finland, USA, China, and of other countries are among its partners.
