Russia improves results in the global educational rankings every year.

Results of the large-scale study of higher education institutions made by Times Higher Education (THE) was published recently. In 2016 the number of national universities mentioned in the ranking has almost doubled. In 2015 there were 13 universities, now there are 24. It is interesting that in 2014 Russia was represented by only two universities – MSU and NSU. Since that time the situation has visibly improved.

THE considered as one of the most prestigious ranking in the world. In assessing the universities accounted for thirteen performance criteria in five areas. This year, changes were made at the methodology for improving the objectivity of the study.

In 2016, 980 universities from different countries were ranked. MSU has shown the best result among Russian universities (188th place). It is followed by MIPT (group 301-350) – from last year it rosed to 200 positions. ITMO University entered THE for the first time and immediately became the third among Russians (group 351-400).

Among the newcomers the HSE also has good result (group 401-500). In the same group are located KFU, MEPhI, NSU and SPbSU. Behind them are TSU and TPU (group 501-600), BMSTU and SPbPU (group 601-800). The remaining 12 Russian universities are included in the 800+ group, half of them entered the ranking for the first time.
