24 Russian Universities in Top World Universities Rankings

QS World University Rankings, one of the best-known and prestigious rankings of the kind released a new edition.

2017 QS update lists 965 top performing higher education institutions from all over the world. Lomonosov Moscow State University (MGU), ranked 95th (up 13 slots from 2016), continues to lead domestic universities.

Saint Petersburg State University moved up 18 places to rank 240. Novosibirsk State University moved up 41 slots to rank 250 with improved citations per faculty, one of the six basic parameters QS experts use in assessing university performance.

2017 QS rankings included Tomsk State University (listed in 323rd place), Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (355th), National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (373th), Higher School of Economics (382nd), Tomsk Polytechnic University (386th), Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (401-410), Kazan Federal University (441-450), Ural Federal University (491-500), National University of Science and Technology MISiS ranked in the 501-550 bracket, Peoples’ Friendship University (501-550), Far Eastern Federal University in the 601-650 bracket, ITMO University in the 601-650 bracket, Lobachevsky University in the 701-750 bracket and Samara University in the 801-1000 bracket.

In 2017, Russian universities improved their positions as MGU was in the world’s top 100 universities; Ural Federal University, National University of Science and Technology MISiS and Peoples’ Friendship University moved up 100 or more places and ITMO University and Samara University that appeared in QS ranking for the first time were listed among the world’s best universities.
