35 Russian Universities in THE Rankings

A rankings agency has named the best universities in developing countries.

Britain’s Times Higher Education published Emerging Economies University Rankings 2019 listing 442 higher education centres in 43 countries such as China, Vietnam, Taiwan, India, Czech Republic, Greece, Slovakia, Lithuania, Latvia etc. In this survey, Russia was represented by 35 universities versus 27 last year. Lomonosov Moscow State University, placed 5th, led the Russian league. It was followed by Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (12th) and National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (16th). The top 100 included Russia’s Higher School of Economics (22nd), National Research Tomsk State University (49th), National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University (51st), ITMO National Research University (53rd), Novosibirsk State University (62nd), Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (87th) and Kazan Federal University (99th). THE also listed National University of Science and Technology MISIS, Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, Samara University, Lobachevsky University, Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University “LETI”, Ural Federal University, Far Eastern Federal University, I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University and Siberian Federal University. Some Russian universities showed better results compared with last year. For example, RUDN University moved up from the group 251-300 to 117th position and SPbPU and HSE moved up 18 and 10 positions, respectively.

THE uses 13 performance indicators such as staff-to-student ratio, doctorate-to-bachelor’s ratio, research volume/income, citations, international collaboration, proportion of international students etc.
