African Culture Day at SUSU

Students from African countries showcased their traditions to festival guests.

South Ural State University students from Algeria, Ecuador, Cameroon, Nigeria, Gabon, Zambia, Ghana and the Democratic Republic of the Congo took part in African Culture Day. The event started with a video presentation of the African continent and flag parade. A show by students in national costumes followed. DRC students performed a scene from an African fairy-tale and read a rap song in their native language. Their peers from other African countries presented African folk songs and dances and recited Mikhail Lermontov’s poem The Sail. The programme included the Mister and Miss Africa contest. Mark Chepeter of Cameroon and Mfundo Berlin of the Democratic Republic of the Congo were announced the winners. At the close of the culture festival, guests were treated to national African dishes.

South Ural State University is located in Chelyabinsk. It currently provides training to more than 2,000 international students from Asia, Africa, the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Middle East. The most popular education programmes are selected within such fields as IT, civil engineering, philology and economics. Some of these programmes are taught in English.
