The winners planning to enter Russian engineering universities get an advantage.

ITMO National Research University and St Petersburg State University will hold an international online Olympiad in physics. Schoolchildren in 7th –11th grades from Russia and other states interested in physics, maths and computer technology are welcome. Participants will take a test and carry out virtual lab experiments using special downloaded software. The preliminary round is held online; it covers many areas of physics including thermodynamics, optics, electromagnetism, quantum and nuclear physics etc.

The online round has two stages; participation in both is mandatory. The first will take place from 28 November till 5 December 2018; the second from 20 January till 26 January 2019. Participants can start solving problems on any day; they have 90 to 120 minutes to complete the tasks. The top scorers are invited to take part in the 23 March 2019 onsite competition in Russian cities, Belarus (Minsk and Gomel), Kazakhstan (Shymkent) and Vietnam (Hanoi, secondary school under the Russian Embassy). The 11th graders who win the academic competition get an advantage in enrolling in undergraduate or specialist programmes in physics at Russian engineering universities such as ITMO National Research University, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, National University of Science and Technology MISIS, Samara University, ETU “LETI”National Research Nuclear University MEPhI and others.
