Russian Universities Graduates on Forbes List
The magazine ranked 200 richest people in Russia.
Lomonosov Moscow State University accounts for 15 graduates who became successful business people, the largest number among other Russian universities.
It is followed by Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, a top Russian engineering university. MIPT boasts powerful schools of sciences; students are thoroughly trained in physics, maths, computer science and other disciplines. Ten of the 200 Forbes rankings participants are MIPT graduates including Alexander Abramov and Alexander Frolov (Evraz steel-making and mining company), Nikolay Storonsky (Revolut financial technology company) and Sergey Kolesnikov and Igor Rybakov (TechnoNICOL roofing and heat-insulating materials producer). The total wealth of these MIPT graduates is estimated at 15.05 bilion dollars.
Five Forbes list business people graduated from National University of Science and Technology MISIS: Mikhail Fridman, German Khan and Alexey Kuzmichev (Alfa Group investment consortium, LetterOne international investment company), Anatoly Sedykh (United Metallurgical Company), Igor Kudryashkin (Ural Mining Metallurgical Company). Their assets’ total value is estimated at 30.2 billion dollars. National University of Science and Technology MISiS is a leading Russian engineering university which offers training in materials science, mining engineering, metallurgy and nanotechnology.
There are also Ural Federal University graduates among Russia’s richest people: Andrey Kozitsyn (Ural Mining Metallurgical company), Sergey Popov (former chairman of the Board, MDM Industrial Group), Dmitry Pumpyansky (Pipe Metallurgical Company), Vitaly Malkin (former president, Russian Credit Bank). Their total assets are worth 11.7 billion dollars. Ural Federal University is one of the best known Russian classical universities; in October 2020, it will mark the centenary of its foundation. Russia’s first President Boris Yeltsin was an UrFU graduate.
Forbes also listed graduates of Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, Financial University Kuzbass State Technical University, Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University and other Russian higher education centres.
