Russian education is in demand in Mongolia. According to statistics, Russia was providing training to some 3,000 Mongolian nationals in the academic year 2016/2017; half of them were self-funded students. The key advantages of studying in Russia are affordable prices and a broad range of majors. Prospective Mongolian students tend to choose linguistics, journalism, teaching, economic sciences and management as well as nuclear power engineering programmes. An important factor is the bilateral agreement between Moscow and Ulaanbaatar according to which Mongolia recognises degrees of different levels from Russian universities.
