International students learnt how to design and operate modern aerospace equipment.

In 2019, Samara University held the international winter school “Space Engineering and Technology” for the first time; it gathered 50 Chinese nationals. The short programme aimed to give students as much information as possible about the design and operation of spacecraft and enable them to put their knowledge into practice. In the course of two weeks, the students attended lectures on launch vehicle and satellite design, spacecraft manoeuvring near space stations, interplanetary travel by solar sail, space materials science and the design of optical-telescopic systems. A special lecture course was devoted to aerospace economics; the students calculated the cost of launching and operating space objects and learnt how they could use space resources. During the practice session, the Chinese students participated in launching experimental rockets from the Samara University test site.

Samara University winter and summer schools provide an excellent opportunity to take a look at the university capabilities and its masters and PhD programmes. Every year, it offers foreign nationals short courses in space engineering, high tech management and Russian language. Applications 2019 are already open.
