Yann Pierre Donon became one of the first foreign recipients of an international PhD degree from a leading Russian university.

For more than 2 years, Yann Donon has been conducting intensive scientific research at the Department of Technical Cybernetics of the Samara National Research University under the English-language Data Science PhD programme. As a result, he successfully defended his dissertation online in September 2020, and this month he was awarded a diploma in-person.

Thanks to his initiative, a joint project of Samara University and CERN OpenLab was launched under the European Organization for Nuclear Research partnership programme. SmartLINAC is a new linear accelerator control system that will make LINAC installations more affordable and safe for a wide range of organizations, including medical and industrial.

Samara University is one of the most innovative Russian educational organizations to join the international PhD programme among the first. By the end of 2018, the university has already awarded its' first PhD degree in a double doctoral programme in cooperation with the Tampere Technical University (Finland).
