International student learnt about modern ice research methods.

Far Eastern Federal University held the 5th international ice school focused on properties of ice and its impact on structures. In 2019, the short winter programme gathered 43 students from China. It included a theoretical course and practice. The students heard a course of lectures on the physics of ice and its impact on vessel hulls and drilling platforms and had practice in the Novik Bay off the university. During some field experiments, they tested ice for strength using special equipment. They also gathered several hundred ice samples to study them at the laboratory for structure, ice crystal growth direction and size, salinity, density and temperature. At the end of the course, the students presented the results of their work, passed the examinations and received certificates. The experiments have practical significance. The data obtained by international students will be used in ice load calculations to design ice breakers, drilling platforms and bridges.

FEFU is a well-known education and research centre located in Vladivostok. Every year, it holds summer and winter schools providing an opportunity to international students to get to know the university, live on a state-of-the-art campus and obtain extensive knowledge of the chosen topic. In the summer of 2019, it will run short programmes in the Russian language, culture and politics. Applications are already open. You can apply free of charge from our website. Create your personal account to write to the university; you will get a reply within ten days.
