Far Eastern Federal University has a tremendous experience in training engineers in different fields. In November 2018, the FEFU School of Engineering will mark its centennial. It currently comprises 24 departments providing training in architecture and civil engineering, oil/gas field development, mining, power and mechanical engineering and land, water and air transport machinery. International students can choose one of 84 undergraduate, specialist or graduate programmes. Among the most sought-after majors are oil/gas field development, mining, mechanical engineering and robotics, shipbuilding and water transport technology, information and communication technology and telecommunication systems and power and electrical engineering. Non-Russian speaking international applicants who wish to get an engineering profession at FEFU can enter the university Preparatory Department. Pre-university training lasts ten months; over this period, students become proficient in Russian and get a grounding in profession-oriented subjects. After completing the course they can take entrance examinations at the department they have chosen. There are also short-term courses of Russian as a foreign language. FEFU students can take English-taught programmes such as MSc in Offshore and Coastal Engineering.
