In the summer of 2020, a new federal law * came into force on the territory of the Russian Federation. It significantly simplified  the process of obtaining citizenship for several categories of foreign nationals, including holders of Russian higher education diplomas.

So, people who have graduated from a Russian university after July 1, 2002, and have been officially employed in the country for at least 1 year can already submit their application to the immigration office. Before this new law, confirmed employment status had to be at least 3 years.

Keep in mind that the new law only applies to foreign citizens who have completed training in main professional educational programs with the state accreditation. A diploma itself is not a basis for staying in the country, as a study visa expires immediately after graduation. To continue living in Russia, you would have to find an official employer.
