Domestic universities did well as training centres for petroleum engineers.

Britain’s Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) publishes world university rankings by subject every year; the latest list includes 37 Russian higher education centres. The rankings cover 48 disciplines across five broad subject areas. In July 2020, QS added two new disciplines, “Geology” and “Geophysics” to Natural Sciences, and “Engineering – Petroleum” to the Engineering and Technology subject area. Five Russian universities are among the best training centres for petroleum engineers. National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University leads the Russian league at 26th place (QS ranked TPU for ten disciplines including Physics and Astronomy, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Systems etc), followed by Moscow State University (46th) and St Petersburg State University, Novosibirsk State University and Kazan Federal University in the 51-75 group.

QS ranking relies on several metrics including academic and employer reputation and research citations. Use our search tool to browse oil and gas business programmes offered by top Russian universities.
