A Russian university student has won the prestigious contest for the seventh time.

It is Gennady Korotkevich’s seventh victory at the Google Code Jam competition. The talented youth from Belarus enrolled at ITMO University’s Information Technologies and Programming Faculty in 2012. Korotkevich completed bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes and in 2018, he passed entrance examinations for postgraduate studies.

The second and third places went to participants from Canada and the USA. ITMO University graduate Yevgeny Kapuin is in the top five.

San Francisco hosts Google Code Jam for IT specialists from across the world every year. In 2020, 96,000 participants contended for the title of the best programmer. The competition comprises the qualification round which lasts about a day, followed by several 2.5 hour rounds. The top 25 scorers who enter the finals have four hours to solve five complex algorithmic problems. As a rule, the rounds are held online except the finals; in 2020, the whole competition was held online.
