KFU Archaeology Summer School Invitation for Foreigners

Classes for postgraduates will run from 20 August till 2 September 2018.

Kazan Federal University offers a short course to international PhD students focused on history, archaeology and conservation. The course includes five modules: Archaeological Textile and Skin (use of archaeological fabric and skin conservation techniques), Archaeological Glass (study of glass artefacts), Paleoanthropology (study of human fossils), Geoarchaeology (use of earth sciences methods in archaeological research) and Experimental and Trace Studies of Ancient Non-Silicon Tools (bone, horn, stone artefacts). The last two modules are English-taught; the rest are in Russian; simultaneous interpreters will provide support to international students. In addition to theoretical studies, students will engage in various kinds of research. To take part in the summer school, a candidate should fill out an application and present one of their articles or briefly describe their research. Applications deadline is 1 May. Tuition fee is 15,500 rubles ($258); students also have to pay an organisation fee of 3,500 rubles ($58). The participants get skill improvement certificates upon course completion.

Classes will be held in the town of Bolgar, Tatarstan, on the premises of the Bolgar State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve. It accommodates unique monuments of the Bolgar-Tatar architecture of the 13th-14th centuries. The KFU archaeological school is popular with young international researchers. It is a frequent choice of PhD students from Germany, China, Sweden, USA, Great Britain, Estonia, Pakistan, Algeria, India, Egypt and other countries.
