Samara University Holds Ethnic Festival

Students from 65 countries presented their national cultures.  

The Samara University world cultures and traditions festival involved more than 200 international students from Vietnam, India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, China, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Bolivia, Ghana, Egypt, Zambia, Jordan, Nigeria and other countries. Dressed in national costumes, they presented the flags of their countries and interesting facts. For example, Egyptian nationals highlighted pyramid construction and the Museum of Cairo. Cote d’Ivoire students told about coffee growing and cocoa production while Nigerians introduced their film industry and Nollywood. Festival participants prepared thematic stands displaying national music instruments, adornments, photos, postcards, hand-made toys and fabrics. The festival programme featured exotic dishes, table setting, dancing and costume contests. The Cameroon-Chad team crafted the tastiest dish, Sri Lankan students won the table setting contest, Colombia led in the dancing contest and Mexico presented the best costume.

Samara University students enjoy challenging studies and numerous cultural and sport activities. The university has acrobatics, judo, basketball, track and field and sky jumping sports clubs, chess, Go game, photo and film societies, tourist groups and song and television schools. It is a regular venue for holidays, festivals, dancing parties, culture days, KVN standup comedy shows, concerts etc.
