Five Russian universities entered the top-10 of the world programming championship.

ACM ICPC Championship is the largest IT-student team competition, held annually since 1977. In 2016, the competition took place from 15th to 20th May in Thailand, Phuket. There were teams from 128 universities in the world.

The winners are Russian students from St. Petersburg State University: Igor Pyshkin, Alexei Gordeyev and Stanislav Yershov, headed by Andrey Lopatin. They beat the team from Shanghai and Harvard universities.

Besides the top 10 include 4 university from Russia: MIPT team took 4th place, ITMO – 7th place, UrFU – 8th place, Lobachevsky University – 10th place.
