Vladimir Putin: We Are Welcoming International Students in Russia

The Russian president held his annual Q&A session on April 14 2016.

One of the questions was asked by Eve Bourbeau. She is originally from Lithuania, knows six languages, graduated from the University in the Netherlands, and then came for work in Tomsk State University in Siberia.

Eva admitted that after the recent tragic accidents in Europe she does not feel safe there. "There's no sense of security any more. I've been working at TSU for six months and I feel comfortable and confident. The same opinion is shared by my colleagues from other European countries: Italy, Germany," she said. Eva asked president's opinion about possible increasing of international students who wish to study in Russia.

"We certainly would welcome all foreign experts and students. They are more and more of them, said the president. I do not know whether there are any restrictions. In my opinion, they do not exist. There are only restrictions related to the number of budget places for international students."

Putin have voiced his sympathy for European colleagues, faced with terrorism, and admitted that at this point in Siberia now it is more safe than in Paris or Brussels.
