Become a specialist in modern geology with NSU
Novosibirsk State University is one of the leading scientific and educational centres in Russia. Presently, 2,100 students from all over the world study here.
Over 200 programmes of various directions are open to foreign citizens at NSU, and new ones are launching all the time. For example, two Master's degrees in Geosciences taught in English. They are best suited for applicants whose dream is to become highly qualified specialists in geology. In addition to the theoretical base, you're going to take part in field research and take professional internships with the research institutes of the Novosibirsk Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The Fundamental and Applied Geosciences programme allows you to choose one of two specializations: an academic in fundamental Earth sciences and an applied profile in petroleum geology and geophysics. And one of two additional courses – mineralogy or seismology. The curriculum includes an in-depth study of geology, geophysics, geochemistry, petrology and innovative applied geo-technology and analytical methods.
The Paleobiological and Stratigraphic Aspects of Paleobiota Research Programme studies ancient fossils and ecosystems. The curriculum consists of a mandatory section: geobiology fundamentals, paleoichnology, uniquely preserved fossils, Precambrian paleobiology; electives and fieldwork in Altai and other Siberia regions. After graduation, you can become a specialist in several related fields simultaneously: palaeontology, stratigraphy, sedimentology, paleobiology and paleoecology.
The graduate achievements of the NSU Faculty of Geology and Geophysics are highly appreciated all over the world. In the fall of 2020, the Russian Geology and Geophysics journal that displays research by Novosibirsk scientists became the only Russian publication on the world-renowned GeoScience World website.
