International Students Get Academic Degrees

Russian universities hold graduation ceremonies.

International students in Russia are awarded degrees at ongoing graduation ceremonies following completion of basic education programmes. Two hundred and fifty-three foreigners finished undergraduate and graduate programmes at Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University "LETI” this year. Of those, 174 are residents of former Soviet republics Latvia, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Abkhazia, Azerbaijan etc. Other graduates hail from Vietnam, China, Indonesia, Egypt, Colombia, Tunisia, Algeria, Ghana, Nigeria and other states. All the students got degrees in engineering professions. Seventy-six Kazakh nationals majored in Applied Mathematics and Informatics, Information Systems and Technologies, Electronics and Nanoelectronics, Instrument Engineering etc. Forty-one Chinese students completed studies in Control in Technical Systems (BSc) which LETI runs in partnership with China’s Suzhou University of Science and Technology. Another four Chinese got master’s degree in the same programme. Nine students from Nigeria completed the bachelor’s degree programme in Electroenergetics and Electrical Engineering.

Some 200 students from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Slovakia, Hungary, Jordan and Bangladesh graduated from National Research Nuclear University MEPhI; 30 of them graduated with honours. Most foreigners were awarded degrees from the MEPhI Institute of Nuclear Physics and Technologies. The graduates said they were happy to have studied at a Russian university which had given them the opportunity to do research, learn Russian and take internships in foreign countries.

One hundred and twenty students from 60 countries including China, Norway, Tanzania, Ecuador etc. graduated from Lobachevsky University (UNN). UNN representatives congratulated the students with successful graduation; the activists were awarded letters of commendation. Some graduates are planning to take UNN masters or PhD programmes.

Siberian Federal University had 79 international graduates this year from China, Spain, Italy, Latvia, Thailand, Iran, Syria, Afghanistan and the Commonwealth of Independent States. Many of them were on engineering programmes such as mathematics and mechanics, civil engineering, oil and gas field development and metallurgy. Some majored in linguistics, economics, social science, law, biology and chemistry.
