MISiS Holds African Union Students Day

Students from Kenya, Nigeria, Namibia, Uganda, Senegal and some other African countries took part in the festival at the National University of Science and Technology (MISiS).

MISiS International Friendship Club held African Union Students Day for the second year in a row. Moscow-based diplomats of five African embassies attended the festival.

Foreign students prepared a concert programme which included West and Central Africa folk dances. Both contemporary and traditional dances were presented, the latter used for such occasions as good harvest celebration. African songs were sung and some students read poetry in their native languages.

Next came a show of traditional costumes of Zambia, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa, Angola, Ghana and Uganda. Each shade in the vibrant colours of national African costumes symbolizes a force of nature while each tribe has distinctive fabric patterns. Winding up the festival was an African geography quiz involving festival guests.

MISiS student body includes over 1,600 students from 69 countries. Of those, 136 are citizens of African states.
