In 2017, over 40 Chinese youths enrolled at Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University (LETI).

Suzhou University of Science and Technology students came to LETI on joint bachelor’s programme “Control in Technical Systems,” following three-year training that included Russian language studies under LETI teachers’ guidance. Entrance tests are taken upon completion of the third year, and the students showing the best results go to St Petersburg. They study at LETI’s Faculty of Industrial Automation and Electrical Engineering for a year, and are awarded bachelor’s degree upon passing the examinations.

Classes at LETI begin in September; the Chinese students come to Russia in August to take a month-long LETI summer school intensive course in Russian and social adaptation. They get to know the city and improve their Russian language skills. Various events are carried out for international students not only within the Summer School course but also during basic training, including sightseeing tours of St Petersburg and surrounding urban areas, master classes and cultural entertainment.

The universities launched the joint programme in 2009; graduates easily land jobs in China as they are much needed on the labour market.
