MSMU Hosts Summer School in Surgery
Oxford and Cambridge Universities students studied current methods of medical treatment.
Second- and third-year medical students from prestigious Oxford and Cambridge Universities and King’s College London and their colleagues from Moscow, St Petersburg and Tyumen universities took a short summer programme in advanced methods of treatment in urology and coloproctology at I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University. The trainees attended lectures on diagnosis, basic colonoscopy principles and use of surgical instruments, practiced suturing techniques and performed laparoscopic resection of the rectum and laparoscopic nephrectomy (minimally invasive kidney removal) using a trial model. Talking with patients were part of the programme. It was a particularly valuable experience for British participants as second and third-year students at UK medical universities cannot have such practice. Last year, Sechenov University ran a summer school in urology and genitourinary oncology.
Sechenov University is a well-known Russian medical university. It offers education in popular fields such as nursing care, dentistry, pediatrics, clinical psychology, obstetrics and gynaecology, pharmacy, bio-engineering and bioinformatics, etc.
