Russian students present international winning streak

Students from several Russian universities brought victories from prestigious international competitions in multiple disciplines.

On October 24, at the closing ceremony of the International Olympiad in Astronomy and Astrophysics 2020, the Russian team, consisting of first-year students from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov took all gold medals in the competition. Two MIPT students were additionally awarded special prizes as the best observer and the best data processor.

International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics includes several stages: theoretical, analytical, observational and team. Like many other competitions this year, it was held online and brought together teams from 40 countries to join the fight for prizes.

The international metallurgy championship Metal Cup - 2020 Gold Season also took place in October. Russia 1, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University's team, defeated contenders from 10 countries and claimed the cup. The competition consisted of various stages, including generating solutions for modern industry problems and the creation of innovative projects for the metallurgical industry. The SPbPU recycling programme for coal and steel production waste will receive funding for further development and implementation. Russia 1 also took the championship's special prize in the Economics category.

In turn, the students of Tomsk State University won the championship in the team and individual stages of the XXXII International Student Economics and Management Olympiad, leaving behind 600 other participants from Russia, the CIS and Europe. TPU's success was marked by diplomas in Marketing, Project Management and Positional Leadership of Logistics divisions.
