Russian Universities Strengthen Positions in Global Rankings
The number of Russian universities listed in prestigious rankings has grown considerably over the recent years.
Developing at a brisk pace, Russian universities are increasingly in demand with international prospective students. QS, THE and ARWU rankings are indicative of progress Russia has been making in the global education services market. Twenty-one Russian universities appeared in QS overall rankings in 2014-2015, 22 in 2016 and 24 in 2017. Times Higher Education listed 13 Russian universities in 2015 overall rankings, 24 in 2016 and 27 in 2017. Twenty-six Russian universities were in QS EECA rankings in 2014, 48 in 2015, 64 in 2016 and 74 in 2017.
Also, more Russian universities made it to global rankings by subject and faculty. Whereas five Russian universities entered 2014 QS Rankings by 15 faculties, their number increased to 11 in 2015 (by 28 faculties), 17 in 2016 (by 29 faculties) and 28 in 2017 (by 38 faculties). In 2017, 12 Russian universities entered the conservative AWRU rankings by subject published by Shanghai University. Ten Russian universities entered THE rankings for physical sciences, two of them made it to the top 100 (Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, placed 48th, and National Research Nuclear University MEPhI placed 89th).
