Preparatory department for Bachelor's programmes

Lobachevsky University has a preparatory department for international students. Classes are held in groups in one of five fields (chosen by the student): Natural Sciences, Humanities, Economics, Engineering and Biomedicine. The basis of the training programme is intensive instruction in Russian as a foreign language (20 academic hours per week) and a number of specialised disciplines, which must be mastered for admission to the first year of the Bachelor's Degree Programme in the chosen subject area.

Content of the course (except for studies in Russian and Culture of Speech):

• Natural Sciences: Scientific Style of Speech (Natural Sciences), Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science or Biology (up to the student's choice);
• Humanities: Scientific Style of Speech (Humanities), Literature, Geography, History of Russia, Social Science;
• Economics: Scientific Style of Speech(Economic Sciences), Economics, Social Science, Mathematics, History of Russia;
• Engineering: Scientific Style of Speech(Engineering), Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Geography or Social Science;
• Biomedicine: Scientific Style of Speech(Biomedicine), Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology.

Duration of study:

• 2 terms (start – September 2017, end – June 2018).
• 3 terms (start – March 2018, end – June 2019).

Preparatory department for Master's programmes

Prior to enrolment in the Master's Degree Programme, international applicants may also take a course in the preparatory department. Classes are held in groups in one of five fields (chosen by the student): Natural Sciences, Humanities, Economics, Engineering and Biomedicine. The basis of the training programme is intensive instruction in Russian as a foreign language (20 academic hours per week) and a number of specialised disciplines, which must be mastered for subsequent completion of Master's Degree Programmes. During the course, students are given an opportunity to complete an interview in the teaching department and agree on a candidate for the student's research supervisor on the Master's Degree Programme.
