Abraham Korodele, Nigeria

National University of Science and Technology MISIS

I found in Russia what I was looking for in USA

My name is Abraham Korodele, and I am from the south-west of Nigeria. I got to know about NUST MISiS when I was trying to go to the US for a Master's Degree, but I found that the same degree that I was looking for in the US was available in Moscow, at NUST MISiS. Actually, my first degree was in Applied Physics, my undergraduate degree, then I have my first Master's Degree in Applied Physics in Nigeria also, then NUST MISiS is my second Master's Degree in Quantum Physics for Advanced Materials Engineering and I think it's worth it.

I found one thing about NUST MISiS. The lecturers will make you read, and read, and read until you understand, and they are very friendly people in my department. It really helps me a lot – all the time you read about quantum, everything you think about is quantum.

Coming into a new environment, society, or country can be challenging and demanding. This is as a result of culture shock. Adaptation in NUST MISIS was remarkable as all the international students were given orientation in order to integrate them into the new environment and society.

Freshman can be injected into the new setting and culture by attending the "MISIS International Friendship Club" that is made of people that are friendly and lively. This group is made up of over 20 nations. They made Moscow enjoyable by organising tours, excursions, sports, etc., in order for international students to familiarise themselves with one another and Russia.

Moscow has been so interesting, and one of the things I have learnt about Moscow is that Moscow is cross-cultural and multicultural. You have different people in Moscow: you have the Armenians, you have the Africans, you have the Tajiks, the Kazakhs, the Germans, different sorts of people.

With the international community you are able to meet with Russians who can also teach you their language.

When looking at the Russians from a distance, their faces might look unwelcoming, but I can categorically say that they are wonderful people to have around. From the old to the young, from men to women, they are ever willing to give a hand of fellowship to an international student. Russia is a place to be. A home away from home.
