I got to meet people from other countries and now they are like family to me

My name is Fransina Izaac. I’m from the eastern part of Indonesia, Papua province.

I came here to get a Master degree in social psychology but now I’m studying at the preparatory course. And now I am not only studying the Russian language but also literature, history and social sciences since these subjects are related to my future study.

When I heard about Kaliningrad for the first time I tried to search more about it on the internet, and I found that Kaliningrad is a good place to come and study. I liked this place because it’s not really cold here comparing to other areas of Russia. I’m from a tropical country and I think it would be a bit hard for me to get used to cold weather. And also some of my friends told me that it’s worth studying at IKBFU, especially for the Humanities. They study in Moscow and they heard about Baltic Federal University only good things.

Before I came here I was worried because I didn’t know anyone here and I didn’t know the language. But the admission office and international office of the university helped me a lot. While I was still in Indonesia, the admissions office found a tutor for me so that I was able to communicate with my tutor even before my arrival. When I arrived in Kaliningrad I didn’t have any difficulties because the tutor helped me a lot with all of the things I had to do, such as documentation, visa, medical test, even showed me the way and helped to move in the dormitory.

Even though I am the only student from Indonesia studying at the IKBFU at the moment, I don’t really feel alone because I got to meet people from other countries and now they are like family to me. Moreover, the teachers also help us a lot with the language, they are friendly and kind to us. When we don’t understand the language they patiently explain until we understand.

The living expenses in Kaliningrad are not really high, people are friendly too, and I am going to continue my studies here. In my free time I really like going to the lake near the university because I can enjoy the view there and see lots of birds.

If you want to come and study in Russia, I do recommend you to come to IKBFU, don’t hesitate because the city is good and the teachers are ready to help you a lot, especially with the language.
