Kama Gogiya, Abkhazia
I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University
In Abkhazia, I met skilled specialists who had graduated from this university
I’ve always known that whatever profession I choose, it must be useful to my country. I decided to enter Sechenov University to become a doctor. In Abkhazia, I met skilled specialists who were Sechenov University graduates; I believe that a degree from MSMU guarantees your good knowledge and career.
I speak Russian well despite the fact that we only speak Abkhazian in our family and that I finished an Abkhazian school. Proficiency in Russian surely helps in adaptation and university study. As for the problems I encountered here I should mention the frosty weather; getting used to it takes time. I couldn’t immediately keep pace with life in a large city and memorise a large amount of information for my study or learn to sleep my fill in two hours and travel large distances every day from one university department to another or back home.
Every time I went back to Abkhazia they asked me lots of questions about the university, the opportunities it offered its students, the internship in foreign countries etc; I even spoke on state television once. I’m always happy to answer questions about Sechenov University because it has become my second home. I believe the university fully lives up to its current slogan: “Tradition. Knowledge. Progress”.
