Yekaterinburg is the fourth largest Russian city by population and is the capital of the Ural region. The city is located in the centre of the Eurasian continent, on the border of Europe and Asia, over 1,600 km east of Moscow.

Multiple cultural events are held at different venues in Yekaterinburg. For instance, the Ural youth cultural centre frequently puts on jazz and rock concerts, shows, contests, festivals, presentations, book exhibitions, and literary soirees. Participants of several discussion clubs talk about modern art and culture. Visitors to the Literary Quarter have a unique opportunity to become immersed into the atmosphere of a Russian city at the beginning of the 19th century. It is a square with a forge shop, stable, coach house, theatre, and several museums, including a museum of books and dolls. Every summer, during the Stenography Festival, streets of Yekaterinburg become amazing objects of street art. Hundreds of artists fr om Russia and other countries come to take part in the festival.
City of Sports
Yekaterinburg is a leading sports centre in Russia. There are over 1,700 sporting facilities here, including 16 stadiums, over 400 indoor gyms, and 45 swimming pools. This is one of 11 Russian cities hosted the 2018 World Cup and the International Fan Festival. In 2023, Ekaterinburg will host the World Summer Universiade.
Multiconfessional City
Yekaterinburg is a home for the followers of many confessions. There are Orthodox churches and cathedrals, two mosques, a synagogue, and other religious establishments and centres.

Yekaterinburg is the perfect place for those who love the active lifestyle. The local yacht club offers yacht and boat tours and holds regular sailing regattas. Those who are into extreme leisure will enjoy paragliding and parachuting. Several flying clubs operate in the city.
Near the City
The incredibly beautiful nature is one of the attractions of the Urals region. There are many thrilling places near Yekaterinburg: the crystal clear lake Talkov Kamien (Talc Stone), Oleni Ruchi (Deer Springs) nature reserve (wh ere the Great Doline and the Druzhba (Friendship) cave, over 500 metres long, are a must-see); Chertovo Gorodische (Devil’s Hillfort) rock mass, and the Volchiha (She-wolf) mountain.
Ural rivers are ideal for rafting, while the diverse local landscape, including rocks, taiga forests, and caves, amaze even the most experienced tourists. You can become a member of a tourist club at the university or sel ect any of multiple routes offered by travel agencies and purchase a guided tour.
There are bike tours offered around the most picturesque nature reserves of the region for those who enjoy cycling. Experienced guides and coaches are always on hand.
The Iset alpine skiing centre is 30 km away from Yekaterinburg. There are 6 tracks and 3 chairlifts located on a 10 ha site. You can rent equipment, park your car, and relax at a cafe with a beautiful view over the Motaiha mountain. The skiing season lasts fr om mid-November to the end of April. Cycle racing and paintball games are held at the facility in summer.
An equestrian club is located in the suburbs of Yekaterinburg, teaching horse riding and organizing hikes. Lake Tavatui is one of the most popular destinations.
