Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education named the most popular faculty among foreign students

The press office of the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education has reported that medicine is the most popular field of study among foreign students who get higher education in Russia.

It is noted that most foreign students in Russian universities come from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, China, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, India, Egypt, Belarus, Ukraine, and Kyrgyzstan. Applicants from all of these countries tend to enter universities’ medical departments.

In addition to paid-for education, many foreign applicants participate in the selection for Russian Government’s scholarship (quota). Today, there is a steady growing trend in the number of applications from foreign citizens who wish to study at Russian universities in state-funded programs. In 2020, 59,720 people expressed their wish to study within the quota of the RF Government, in 2021, there were 83,106 applicants, and in 2022, this number has remained so far at the level of over 83 thousand.

Admission of foreign citizens within the quota of the Government of the Russian Federation is being carried out as planned. The final data of the campaign will be available at the end of September 2022. After that it will be possible to draw conclusions as to the effects of foreign citizens’ admission within the Government’s quota in 2022.
