Specializations within this programme

  • Archeology and Ethnography

    Training includes several thematic modules, which covers more than 10 specialized disciplines in archeology and ethnography. The main areas of specialization in this field include Archaeology of Siberia, the Far East, Central Asia and East Asia, the Pacific coast; social and economic organisation of ancient societies; history of military art of the peoples of Central Asia; primitive art and ethnography of Siberia. These courses are taught by the leading scholars in the field of archeology and ethnography of Siberia and the Far East and the leaders of the schools of thought Archaeology of Southern Siberia and Central Asia, Archaeology of Western Siberia and Archaeology of North Asia. The training program includes field trips and summer field schools, which enable the students to master the expedition techniques and the latest archaeological and ethnographic laboratory techniques.

  • General History

    Research is primarily done in history of the ancient world and the Middle Ages. The main areas of specialization include the following: history and sociology of culture, the history of the spiritual life in age of Antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance and religious studies. Social and political history and culture of ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome, the history of Western Europe in the Middle Ages, the history of educational thought in Europe in the modernity, political history of Western Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific region at the present stage are studied in the program.

  • National History

    The priority area of study is the place and importance of the Siberian region in the Russian historical process. Two scientific and educational centers operate within the department: Historical Siberian Studies and Dynamics of and Experience in the Russian socio-cultural transformations. Teachers specialising in this field give lectures on the history of the country, the national historiography and source study, the history of Russian culture, Siberia history and auxiliary historical disciplines.
