The 2-week long Summer School “The Russian North”: Mentality, History, Culture” is aimed at giving the students, who take interest in the Russia more information about Russian language, history and culture by making them acquainted with the lingual, cultural, historical, social and political peculiarities of “The Russian North”. This region of Russia has its own social and historical tradition which differs from the main one, what gives the unique opportunity for interdisciplinary analysis, which helps better understand the contemporary  Russian reality.

 The Summer School comprises a number of relevant work-shops, which are not only provide theoretical  (within lectures and seminars), but also practical (“field” experience and master-classes) knowledge of “The Russian North”. All work-shops are thought by the experienced lecturers (professors, associated professors) with the background in linguistics, philology, history, sociology, cultural as well as political science. The lecturers mainly represent one of the leading Russian universities – Peoples` Friendship University of Russia (RUDN), which has a good reputation for the development of intercultural communications and methodology of teaching Russian as foreign language.    

 The Summer School is helpful not only for improving oral and writing skills in Russian (as foreign language) and strengthening the intercultural communication skills but also paves the way for the better understanding of the role of Russia as “a cultural bridge” between West and East through learning the linguistic, historical, cultural, social and political tradition which turned out to be very actual for the analysis and prognostication of the contemporary social, cultural and political processes.

The core aim of the Summer School is breaking the long-living stereotypes of Russia and setting up the image of Russia as the country with unique cultural and historical background.
