Institute of Cybernetics
The Institute has its history from 1961 when Automatics and Computer Engineering faculty was opened at Tomsk Polytechnic University. The faculty later was reorganized in the Institute of Cybernetics (IC).
Nowadays the Institute introduces innovations into educational process intensively. IC is one of the first institutes that used a multi-level system of specialists training (bachelor – engineer – master). Foreign students were accepted for Computer Science training in English from 2001. The program was accredited by the international organization for educational programs (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, ABET).
15 author’s courses of e-learning were developed by the Institute (in particular, Introduction to business professional communication, General English blended course and etc.) which are in active use for mobile learning organization. An experimental group of elite technical education students was formed from 2015. It is based on MOOCs courses which are open to everybody in the Internet.

Specialization: Computer Science
1)    The program is realized in English and consists of two-year Master’s Degree Program of double degree diploma “Computer science” with Munich University of Technology, and short-term disciplines in English including professional retraining.
2)    Unique programs realization with getting training certificates on the basis of:
-    Scientific training unit “HUGHES-TPU”;
-    Innovation Centre Microsoft TPU;
-    TPU training unit & Softline.
3)    Participation in projects on the basis of Scientific Research laboratory of telecommunication, tool engineering, marine geology and laboratories jointly initiated with RASA Association.
Cooperation and exchange programs with Xiamen University (China) and Hagen Distance University are realized within the framework of this program. There is an agreement with Trento University (Italy), KIT memorandum (Karlsruhe, Germany). The Institute plans a program together with Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and joint application for academic mobility program within Erasmus+ framework approved by the European Commission Erasmus+ KA1 International Credit Mobility Proposal: Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
Specialization: Industrial Design
The program includes disciplines in English, probations for foreign students on the base of Design Centre, and also participation in innovation projects realization in the sphere of commercial art. Cooperation with Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture (Finland) and Coventry University (Great Britain) is realized.
Specialization: Mechanical Engineering
The program is aimed at Bachelor’s training of foreign students and realized in English. It also includes disciplines in English and professional retraining. The program has cooperation with Siemens company. Strategic partnership agreement was signed. Joint modern innovation technologies will be developed within this agreement.
Institute of High Technology Physics
Institute of High Technology Physics was founded on June 1, 2010 according to the National Research TPU development program during 2009-2018 on the basis of National Research Institute scientific laboratory of high voltage and the departments of electrophysical, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering faculties and the faculty of natural sciences and mathematics incorporating the best achievements and experience in scientific and educational activities.

The department of high technology physics in mechanical engineering (HTPME) and the department of material science in mechanical engineering (MSME) are organized and work in cooperation with institutes of Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science – High Current Electronics Institute and Institute of Strength Physics and Materials Science.

Outstanding teachers and graduates:

Specialists training began from 1900 and had  two departments (mechanical and chemical) of Tomsk Technological Institute. Mendeleev D.I., a famous scientist and chemist took an active part in founding the Chemical department of the Institute. Professors Tihonov T.I and Dobrovidov A.N. laid the ground for Siberian school of physical metallurgy and mechanical metal working by cutting that would be further advanced by their followers’ works. A professor Kizhner N.M. made several prominent discoveries in the sphere of chemical reactions named after him and got in all organic chemistry textbooks. A Professor-physicists Weinberg B.P. and Vorobyev A.A. contributed to educational process formation of the first departments, science development and Siberia investigation.

Among teachers and scientists of the Institute the most outstanding are: Dan Shechtman, a Nobel laureate (Israel), Jindrich Musil (the Czech Republic), Igor Sevostyanov (USA), Valentin Popov (Germany), Eugene Al Olevsky (USA), Elizar Gutmanas (Israel), Vladimir Uglov (Belorussia), Sunder Ramasubbu (India) and others.

Study and science equipment

Centres and departments of the Institute of High Technology Physics were equipped with modern laboratory and technological facilities to the sum of 1billion RUB. Scientists use transmission electron microscope, 3-D laser vibrometer, optical and spectroscopic measurements equipment, resource cyclic tests. Many unique installations were developed and assembled within the precincts of the Institute: cathode-ray and laser alloying equipment, 3-D printer for printable continuous reinforced polymers, pulsed accelerators installations and etc.

Margarita Lyukmanova, specialist in “Mangement”, post-graduate of Computer Science faculty, doctoral school “Design Thinking Center”. She carries out scientific research in Trento University, Italy.
Julia Rotar (Chertolyas), specialist in “Advertisement and Public relations”. She works at the IQPC (International Quality and Productivity Center) company that is included into 3 world leading companies in international and educational activities organization and holding (summit talks, forums, conferences). Siberian travel industry resource centre (STIRC) was founded on the basis of the Institute forming TPU positive image as an object of tourist interest and improving educational programs quality in “Tourism” specialization.
Every year students of the Institute have probation in foreign universities: Karlsruhe Technological Institute (Germany), Tomas Bata University in Zlin (the Czech Republic), Jilin University (China), Joseph Fourier University (Grenoble, France), Vienna University of Technology (Austria) and others. Many students graduated from the Institute return to the country of their probation and get a job there.
Social Communication Department organizes the debating club “Youth initiative”. Participants of the club are students, post-graduates and young scientists, also pupils of senior school classes interested in social and political life subjects. The club became a diploma winner of the second all-Russian research papers and social projects competition “Boris Yeltsin – New Russia- Peace” in 2013.
Foreign languages are of great importance. So a multimedia library was organized in 2001. It is a methodical complex equipped with a self-study hall for language learning (English, French, German, and Chinese) and 9 classrooms with satellite TV, audio- and video-devices and computer facilities.

Institute of Natural Resources
The oldest department of TPU which was established more than 100 years ago.
    The founders are Vladimir Obruchev, Russian geologist and Mikhail Usova, first Siberian academician in the USSR.
    Dmitry Mendeleev took an active part in the development of chemical department. There are many outstanding scientists: academician N. М. Kizhner, who implemented a method for carbohydrates  which is called "Kizhner’s method"; professor Е. V. Biron, professor B. P. Veinberg, studied magnetism of the Earth, founder of Tomsk school of solid state physics, academician N. N. Semenov. Professors  Т. I. Tihonov, N. V. Gutovskiy, N. P. Chizhevskiy had fundamental researches in metal science, metallurgy, physics of metals.

The Institute was founded according to the order of University Rector on May 28, 2010 on the basis of academic decision for university development program during 2009-2018. The program was approved by the Ministry of Education and Science order in priority field “Non-destructive testing, electronics, biomedicine, quality management”.

Industrial tomograph
An industrial tomograph is available for x-ray non-destructive testing and internal structure defectoscopy of variable industrial space, aviation and military products (metal, compound and integrated).

Heat defectoscope-tomograph
It is available for detection of impact damage, breaking, burning and etc., defects in compound materials and aerospace engineering elements. Water detection in compound airplane boards. Corrosion monitoring in thin-walled shells out of metals and non-metals. Contact-free anisotropic and thermal properties determination of composites.
Ultrasound tomography robot module
A primary function of this device is compound structural parts control with 3D imaging and automated results estimation in real time using Sampling Phased Array (SPA) technique.
TPU academic and inspection complex
It is designed for modern research works realization in digital radiography, monitoring results processing and visualization. It’s of first importance that a mode of imaging in several energy ranges (dual energies mode) is realized in this complex. It allows to identify monitored item substances according to density and atomic number and considerably increase the possibilities of drugs and explosives detection.

Institute of Physics and Technology
The Institute was established in 2010. The Institute carries out basic and applied researches; new technologies, manufacturing application for special innovative sphere and facilities. The Institute of Physics and Technology is a leader of applied physics  in academic community of Russia.

There is a hydrometallurgical laboratory and a laboratory of fluoride technologies.
The task of a hydrometallurgical laboratory is to investigate the most profit-making method of a complex recycling of mineral polymetallic raw materials.

•       massive  desublimator;
•       vacuum crystallizer;
•       drying, calcining, vacuum furnaces;

•       flotation plant.
The researches are based on fluorine as an oxidative reagent for fluorization of solid, liquid and gaseous substances. Studies of thermodynamics and kinetics of fluorization. Studies of  physical and chemical system properties based on fluorides.

•    reactor of fluoride of vertical type;
•    screw reactor of fluoride;
•    horizontal reactor of fluoride;
•    distilling, rectification  unit.
There is a laboratory plasma panel  "Plasma unit based on HF generator ВЧГ8-60/13-01"; a moving plasma unit based on HF generator ВЧГ8-60/13-01 "Unit of plasmacatalytic  utilization of industrial waste"; mass-spectrometric complex  for isotope analysis.
The Institute has a unique digital spectrometric complex for material research and control by  electron-positron annihilation.
Institute of Power Engineering
The leading academic centre of Russia in power engineering sphere. The departments have a very long history of specialists training in heat-and-power engineering and power industry. About 2000 intramural students are taking their studies nowadays. The Institute includes 9 graduating departments, 3 scientific and technical centres and 9 research laboratories.

Academic activity of the Institute is realized within the transformation framework in leading world academic centre “Smart power systems” in power industry. Academic process, scientific researches are implemented in 3 key directions:
•    Smart Power Generation;
•    Smart Grids;
•    Smart City.

The academic centre “Heat and nuclear power plants technologies” has the value of 1million dollars. All scientific and research work of the Institute is foreground and gives students an opportunity to get President scholarship. The Institute realizes academic exchange programs, summer internships and Double Degree diploma for students and post-graduates.  
Employment opportunities promotion system allows graduates to work in  Russian leading companies: OJSC “United Power Grid System Operator”, OJSC “Federal Grid Company”, OJSC “RAO Energy Systems of the East”, “Gazprom”, “Rosatom” and others. 17 honourable workers of Ministry of Education and Science, 6 honoured Energy Worker of the Russian Federation, 1 member of the International Energy Academy and 5 teachers awarded by RF and USSR medals work in the Institute of Power Engineering.

Training is organized according to 4 foreground programs:
•    Heat-and-power and heating engineering,
•    Power Industry and Electrical engineering,
•    Power engineering,
•    Nuclear power plants: design, exploitation and engineering,
•    Cryogenics.

Educational process and its peculiarities
Laboratories with modern equipment, international academic centres furnished with companies equipment "Woodward", "Eaton" (USA), "Danfoss" (Denmark), "Lappkabel" and "Viessmann" (Germany) are used during specialists training.
Owing to academic mobility program realization students have an opportunity to study abroad, particularly in Technical University (the Czech Republic), Munich Technical University (Germany). Also the Institute realizes Double Degree diploma program together with Czech Technical University, Grenoble Polytechnic Institute (France), higher school of electrical engineering "Suplec", Paris (France).
Students study modern power engineering problems, questions connected with electric systems design and management, develop new pollution-free and alternative technologies. Master analysis techniques for process investigation in NPP equipment, develop and improve power-supply systems. In 2014 the company Siemens offered Ruslan Upha, a TPU post-graduate dealing with model building of smart power systems, to have probation and get consultation of leading company top-managers on his project.


The Institute Mega Project: “Hybrid simulation and management in smart power systems”
The project focuses on the development of models and automation equipment of smart power systems for accident-free work. Developed technologies and means of implementation allow cardinally decrease the major accidents number and minimize the loss at the development.  

Study and scientific equipment
Specialists have training in laboratories with modern equipment, international academic centres furnished with company equipment "Woodward", "Eaton" (USA) and "Lappkabel" (Germany) are actively used.
Unique and expensive analytic, technological and subsidiary equipment is of great use during investigations carrying out:
•    AR5 Electric power quantity and quality analyzer,
•    Infra-red electronic thermometer with laser designator,
•    Light-meter LIGHT METER RS,
•    Liquid flowmeter PORTAFLOW,
•    Analytic complex for efficiency estimation of energy sources usage.

Unique developments
•    all-mode real time simulator complex of electric power systems;
•    energy efficiency improvement of decentralized power supply complexes;
•    energy-efficient schemes development of  hybrid electric power supply systems;
•    hybrid system of buffer energy-storage for autonomous power complexes;
•    installation for power-generating machinery testing of medium-class tension;
•    explosion-protected smart control module for main pipelines;
•    nanodispersed powder production technique of metals,  very hard, super hard materials and composites;
•    nanosized cilicized carbon production by plasmodynamic technique.
