Russian universities lead numerous medical science projects and actively enhance their research facilities. New laboratories open all the time, the latest technologies go into implementation, and methodology improves everywhere. Below you'll find a selection of leading Russian educational centres that can give you an opportunity to contribute to the advancement of global medicine.

Sechenov University is a leading medical research centre and trains specialists in all fields. The university prepares not only highly qualified doctors but future medical scientists as well. In recent years, these professionals have launched several successful projects: an artificial kidney prototype, the My Health mobile app, a blood flow mathematical model, and an innovative 3D laser bioprinter to create artificial tissues and organs. The university offers international applicants more than 100 different programmes, and in 2021 it is launching a cardio-oncology direction. Developments in this area will help treat cancer patients with accompanying cardiovascular diseases.

Researchers at the Novosibirsk National Research State University have created a programme to model a protein behaviour in human DNA. They managed to identify three mutations where this protein can be turned off at the pathology source. The findings are essential for the development of new cancer treatments. NSU laboratories are also known for other achievements in medicine, nanotechnology and medical biotechnology. The university offers international applicants more than 300 educational profiles in various fields, including residency programmes in surgery, medicine and radiology.

The National Research Technological University MISiS scientists have made a key breakthrough in biomedicine. They created bionic robots composed of magnetic nanoparticles and antibodies that can detect and mark certain types of cells. This development will make an early diagnosis possible for many diseases, including cancer. Check out the Master's programme in Biomedical Nanomaterials. Research activities based in the laboratory of biomedical nanomaterials are at the centre of the course. Students study MRI diagnostics, targeted drug delivery to the disease source and new possibilities of magnetic hyperthermia.

Scientists from ETU LETI and Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, together with the Polytechnic University of Madrid, conducted a study of the magnetic material particles behaviour in a liquid medium. The results will contribute to the development of magnetically controlled drug delivery methods, more accurate MRI diagnostics, etc. LETI and Polytech are the two oldest technical universities in Russia with an extensive scientific base and high-tech laboratories.

Five universities, including Lobachevsky University and HSE University, formed a joint laboratory of neurophysiology and human cognitive development. The project aims to help people with mental disabilities. As part of the research, HSE University experimented on creating brain and muscle activity maps with magnetic impulses (nTMS). The technique should help treat mental and neurological diseases and rehabilitate patients after a stroke.
