Training in General Medicine is provided on six-year specialist degree programmes. The graduates are certified general practitioners or medical doctors. To be granted full registration you have to complete a residency programme and internship or a postgraduate course. General Medicine is entry level training that opens specialisation options to become a surgeon, therapist, cardiologist, paediatrician etc.
Each year, students have obligatory in- and outpatient care practice at hospitals and first-aid stations.

Entrance Examinations
As a rule, General Medicine applicants have to take the examinations in chemistry, biology and Russian language. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University is the only higher education centre which does not require students to take the biology exam. It is Russia’s oldest medical university established in 1758. MSMU faculty of General medicine is the largest in the country providing training to some 8,000 students. The staff includes academicians and associates of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
To be admitted to the programme in General Medicine, international applicants have to take computer-based tests in chemistry and Russian language. International applicants can select English as the language of examinations.
Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University (IKBFU), Kaliningrad
IKBFU is the legal successor of University of Konigsberg, or Albertina which was founded in the 16th century. Its medical faculty opened applications for the General Medicine major in 2016. IKBFU has a Preparatory Department for prospective international students and intensive summer language courses that raise learners’ proficiency to the required level.
