Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University is located in Kaliningrad in Russia’s westernmost region. It offers prospective international students more than 100 programmes of different education levels. This article highlights top IKBFU programmes.

Tips for foreign nationals applying for master’s programmes:

Required documents:

  1. Russian-taught master’s degree programme “Software development for automated industrial facilities”

  2. The programme was designed in partnership with Switzerland’s ABB, the world leader in the production of industrial electrical equipment. It aims to train specialists for full cycle software development, including testing and support. Students are taught teamwork and customer interaction. Graduates are well-versed in Microsoft and Oracle databases and such technologies as ASP.NET, .NET Core, WPF, Telerik/KendoUI, platform Entity, Dapper, web-API, WCF, HTML5, Angular 5+, VUE.js, jQuery, REST, Bootstrap, OPC servers etc. Basic programming language: C#. Graduates can be employed in any country; the best get ABB job offers.

    Mathematics and Mechanics.

    Tuition fee:

    Foreign nationals: 84,000 rubles ($1,292) per semester.

    Degree:

    State-recognised master’s degree.

  3. English medium master’s programme “Functional nanomaterials and modern technologies
  4. The master’s programme for holders of bachelor’s degree (physics, chemistry, materials science, cell biology or cognate programmes) is focused on experimental and theoretical methods to design nanotechnologies and application of nanomaterials. Students get 120 ECTS credits for the two-year programme which is a joint project with Poland’s Gdańsk University of Technology; the graduates can get two degrees. Thanks to the programme’s interdisciplinarity, graduates can be employed at international and national companies and research institutes.

    Field of study:

    Physics and Astronomy.

    Tuition fee:

    Foreign nationals: 87,500 rubles ($1,346) per semester.

    Degree:

    Master’s students have the opportunity to earn MSc in Nanotechnology from a European university in addition to the master’s degree from IKBFU.

  5. English medium master’s programme “Russian and EAEC Law”
  6. The programme aims to train skilled lawyers needed in Russia and abroad who will work at the juncture of Russian national law, international law and Eurasian Economic Community and European Union integration law. Students get broad opportunities to join IKBFU international programmes (internships at international organisations, courts, universities and research centres). Graduates can work at private and public organisations including government bodies, international companies and education institutions.

    Field of study:

    Jurisprudence.

    Tuition fee:

    Foreign nationals: 84,000 rubles ($1,292) per semester.

    Degree:

    State-recognised master’s degree.

  7. Specialist degree programme “General Medicine
  8. Language of instruction: Russian or English. Future doctors will study biological processes in a human body, pathogenesis, disease prevention and treatment. The curriculum includes more 70 disciplines such as biology, biochemistry, anatomy, histology, physiology, pharmacy, obstetrics and gynaecology, therapy, surgery, paediatrics, neurology etc. Students have much field-specific practice, both at the university and hospitals.

    Field of study:

    Clinical Medicine.

    Entrance examinations:

    • Russian medium programme: computer tests in chemistry, biology and Russian language.

    • English medium programme: computer tests in chemistry and biology in English.

    Tuition fee:

    Foreign nationals: 98,000 rubles ($1,507) per semester.

    Application dates:

    19 June – 10 July 2020.

    Required documents:

    • Passport.

    • 302N medical checkup certificate.

    Degree:

    Higher Education diploma, “Medical Doctor” qualification.

  9. Intensive Summer School in Russian Language and Culture

Intensive course in the Russian language and culture, three classes per day. Learners have a lot of spoken Russian practice, listening comprehension (based on modern Russian films and cartoons) and group work. Cultural programme: sightseeing tours, visits to museum and festivals (for example the World Ocean Museum and Short Film Festival), master classes in making rag dolls and Russian gingerbread cakes, trips to the seaside and the Curonian Spit national park, a UNESCO world heritage site. Students are accommodated in a recently renovated comfortable dormitory located within a 15-minute walk from the teaching block.

Period of study: 

27 July – 21 August 2020. 

Tuition fee:

50,000 rubles ($769), covers classes, sightseeing, dormitory accommodation and study materials.

Application dates:

1 May 2020

Required documents:

  • Visa invitation application.

  • Foreign travel passport 1st page scan.

  • Student card copy scan.

Degree:

Summer school certificate stating the number of classroom hours, credits and language proficiency level.
