Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, founded 120 years ago, is one of Russia’s top engineering universities. Prospective international students are offered 136 undergraduate, 166 graduate and 11 specialist programmes.

When can prospective international students apply?

Application dates for prospective undergraduate and graduate students: 1 February - 15 June (for residents of countries requiring visas); the application deadline for residents of visa-free travel countries is 28 August. Foundation programmes application dates: 1 March - 1 October, (depends on the programme). Create a personal account to write to the university for free. Admissions Board staff will reply to you within ten days.

What documents do foreign nationals have to submit for undergraduate/graduate studies?

Following is the list of required documents:

  1. Filled-out application form.

  2. Copy of passport.

  3. Copy of previous education certificates.

All documents have to be translated into Russian or English.

What programmes in English are available at SPbPU?

The university offers one English-taught undergraduate programme (International Business) and 19 English-taught masters programmes including Civil Engineering, Nuclear Power Engineering, Intelligent Systems, Mechanics and Mathematical Modeling etc. Four new masters programmes were launched in 2019:

  • Smart Nanostructures and Condensed Matter Physics.

  • Environmental Engineering in Urban Construction.

  • New Materials and Additive Technologies.

  • Laser and Fibre Optic Systems.

Do I have to take an English examination for English medium programmes?

Proficiency in English is assessed during the interview/examination in principal subject. There is no separate test in English. English proficiency certificates are not a must, but programme coordinators might ask an applicant during the interview if they have such documents.

Can I take entrance examinations online?

Preliminary online interviews allow to assess the applicant’s level of training.

How much are tuition fees?

In 2018/2019, undergraduate programme fees ranged from 175,000 rubles ($2,700) a year (for CIS residents) to 273,600 rubles ($4,210) a year (for non-CIS residents). Graduate programmes tuition fees vary from 198,000 rubles ($3,050) a year to 301,400 rubles ($4,640) a year.
