An expedition to the red planet is likely to happen very soon

Arthur Vimalachandran is doing the PhD programme in GNSS Technology in Samara under the supervision of Kai Borre, a visiting professor from Denmark and a specialist in satellite navigation.

Arthur has many research interests, and organization of interplanetary missions is one of them. He has been passionate about space travel since he was a child, Yuri Gagarin was his hero. Arthur has always wanted to visit the home country of the first man in space. That is why he decided to pursue his studies in Russia and applied to theSamara Aerospace University.

In 2016 the student won the Society of Satellite Professionals International Scholarship and took part in two major events in Mexico. He attended the 15th Space Generation Congress and the 67th International Astronautical Congress. Arthur presented his own project of the Mars analogue mission with budget and financial risks calculated.

The student was very satisfed with his trip. He met scholars from different countries and attended the lecture on Mars exploration by a famous businessman and innovator Elon Musk. Arthur thinks that his colleagues from the Samara University should start working on the development of Mars rovers in order to take part in the international project in the future.
