Cuban Students Study Power Engineering in Russia

International students completed a course at MEPhI.

National Research Nuclear University MEPhI is a top Russian technological university specialising in training nuclear industry specialists. MEPhI developed a three-month supplementary professional education programme in Electric Power Industry and Heat-Power Engineering. Five Cuban students got a grounding in nuclear reactor technology, safe operation of nuclear power installations, nuclear systems design etc. They also gained practical experience in analysing nuclear installations safety.

The students toured Obninsk NPP and saw its reactor hall, the observation deck and a display of nuclear power generation timeline. The university arranged several trips to health care companies and agribusinesses for the students to showcase the application of radiation technology in medicine and farming. At the end of the course the Cubans received certificates of professional retraining. MEPhI plans to run such courses every autumn and spring.

National Research Nuclear University MEPhI currently trains about 1,500 international students from Vietnam, Turkey, Bangladesh, Jordan, Egypt and CIS countries.
