International Students Learn Russian in Tomsk
More than 130 foreigners came to National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University for a short summer programme in Russian language and culture.
The student body was drawn from China which contributed a majority of the participants, European countries (Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Norway, France, Czech Republic, Switzerland) and South Korea. TPU collaborates with several Chinese universities on exchange programmes. Chinese students come to Tomsk to practice Russian every summer. Many of them decide to continue their education in Russia and enrol for TPU double degree programme.The summer school runs in two three-week shifts with high intensity Russian language course taught every day by highly-skilled TPU teachers. Recreation programme offers to gain practical skills in nesting doll (matryoshka) painting and Siberian cooking. Also students visited museums and went on excursions. For example, they visited the Narym village also known as “Siberian Venice,” and the Chisty Yar hot spring on the bank of the river Ob.
