Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University "LETI" ran a short language programme for international students for the sixth time.
Students from Indonesia, Mexico, Egypt, Spain, Peru, Greece, Ecuador, Iran and some other countries came to St Petersburg to study Russian in summer 2017. A majority came from China’s Suzhou University of Science and Technology to take a Russian language course at LETI as part of a double degree programme. Chinese students had been learning Russian at their home university under the guidance of LETI teachers for three years before they went to St Petersburg for language practice.
Students were divided into groups after taking a proficiency test at the beginning of the course. LETI specialists designed a most effective programme for each language skills level. Completion of the summer school was marked with a concert and certificate award ceremony. LETI teachers said that international students had worked hard and that the results they had achieved were good enough as they had expanded their vocabulary and mastered Russian language rules.
All summer school students lived in a university dormitory. They went on sightseeing tours of key city locations, including Peterhof and Kronstadt in suburban Petersburg in their spare time. The Chinese students stayed in Russia after completing the summer course to continue their bachelor’s double degree studies. Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University currently has some 1,400 international students from more than 60 countries.
