The bulk of students came from Kazakhstan, Iran, Uzbekistan and China.

Novosibirsk State University admitted 194 foreign nationals in 2019. Thirty-six enrolled in undergraduate programmes, 48 in specialist programmes, 93 in graduate programmes and 17 in PhD and residency programmes. General Medicine (specialist’s degree, Russian-taught) is one of the most attractive majors. Besides medicine, international applicants were interested in Russian medium undergraduate and graduate programmes in management and graduate programmes in applied mathematics and informatics. The top three popular English-taught programmes were General Medicine (specialist degree), Big Data Analytics (MSc) and Oil and Gas Management (MSc).

Novosibirsk State University was established in Akademgorodok, a cluster of leading Russian science schools that provide research opportunities to students during their studies. NSU scientists have been recently focused on newest technologies in medicine. It is one of the reasons behind NSU medical programmes’ being in demand among international students.
